Asian Handicap −0.25 and +0.25: What Happens on a Draw

Why a 0.25 line splits the stake
A −0.25 or +0.25 handicap settles as two equal parts: half on handicap 0 and half on −0.5 or +0.5. It is one form of Asian handicap; our general guide to Asian handicap covers the broader market. This article focuses on the borderline result: a draw.
Suppose you stake 1,000 units on the home team at −0.25. For settlement, that is two 500-unit bets: one at handicap 0 and one at −0.5. If the match is drawn, the handicap-0 half is refunded and the −0.5 half loses. You receive 500 units back and your net result is −500. This is a half loss.
Choose the away team at +0.25 and the stake splits between 0 and +0.5. On a draw, the first half is refunded and the second wins. At a hypothetical decimal price of 1.90, the winning half returns 500 × 1.90 = 950 units. Add the 500-unit refund and the total return is 1,450 units: 450 units of profit on the original 1,000-unit stake.

The table compares both sides of one match: home at a negative handicap and away at a positive one. Prices for the two sides are usually different, so the table explains settlement only; it says nothing about probability or value.
What “half” means in the payout
A half result does not mean the bookmaker recalculates the whole ticket at an “average” price. Each half is settled separately as a win, refund, or loss. A winning half’s return includes its original 500-unit stake. A refunded half returns only those 500 units. Do not confuse the total returned with net profit.

For a quick check, temporarily write the bet as two separate lines and apply the same final score to each. If one part is unclear, do not call the whole selection a win until you have checked its refund and loss components.
Check the market and period
Confirm the sign, selected team, and settlement period before placing a bet. A football market may cover regulation time, extra time, or a specific segment; the event page and operator’s settlement rules should state the applicable period.
A quarter handicap changes the payout around a draw. It is not insurance and does not prove that a side is underpriced. Assessing the price and estimating probability are separate from understanding settlement.
